Savage Tempest Savage Leisure Paperback Cassie Edwards 9780843955347 Books Reviews

Let's see....If I'm a five year old I might enjoy this ridiculous book. This book begs to ask the question "how on earth did this author get published?"!

I really hate to spend money on trash. I did this time.
I agree with the poor writing comment in a previous review and the over use of exclamation points. Most paragraphs are two sentences. This is written at grade school level or below. Everything goes perfect for someone being a captive and is very unrealistic in what would have actually happened in that time. Also, even the children speak English which seems a bit farfetched. The main characters also fall in love immediately without any character development. The plot isn't interesting either. How many of her books have the leading male named either Hawk or Wolf something and fall in love at first sight? The four I've read had.

I'll never read another of her books since they are just fluff. Don't get me wrong, I like happy endings and like things to work out for the leading characters, but this is just garbage. I got this from a book club and see that they are shipping out another of Cassie's books next month so I'm quitting that club.
This is the worst romance novel I have ever picked up. Honestly. I was current as of this morning on all my favorite romance authors from Johanna Lindsey to Stephanie Laurens (and Judith McNaught, Gaelen Foley, Lisa Kleypas, Susan Elizabeth Phillips and dozens of others in between), and thought hey, this is an author I haven't read and she has a lot of books. What fun it would be to try reading someone new! Seriously bad error in judgment on my part. I'm all about the idea of a Native American romance, and I was ready to really get into it. It would have been nice if Cassie Edwards knew how to put a story together... but apparently, that's far too much to ask for.

Granted, there are authors who have no idea how to use grammar and can still pull off a story from which you can't tear yourself away. Cassie Edwards is not one of those authors. Hell, she's not even in the right universe.

The heroine is captured, and, within three days, her Indian captor is in love with her and she loves him back. The problem isn't the timeline. The problem is we never see them do anything that shows they fall in love. AKA NO DEVELOPMENT WHATSOEVER. Looking for strong characters? Well, the author keeps having the characters look at each other and think, "oh, she's so strong and delicate and fierce and spirited and whatever!" and the whole time, all the reader is thinking is, "what? what behavior or action or declaration on her part made you think any of those things? I don't follow!" You can't just describe it and make it so. The reader wants to see it. You can say a character is beautiful, but for the reader to buy into a brave beauty, I want to see her be brave.

This woman seriously has diarrhea of the mouth. She has the characters spouting information we don't need or want when it's irrelevant to the scene or story, but then when she gets to the characters expressing how they feel, all we get is they care about each other. How do you go from getting taken captive to being in love in five minutes with almost no interaction? It simply leaves for a very disappointing read.

Burn it. Honestly. It'll be more use to you as kindling than any enjoyment you might get out of the read.

If you're looking for a good Native American romance, I would highly recommend looking for the ones by Johanna Lindsey (Savage Thunder or A Heart So Wild) or Heather Graham (civil war related mostly).
His father the tribal chief orders High Hawk to raid the nearby ranches for horses and to abduct a white woman to prove his prowess and worthiness. High Hawk objects to his father's advice, as stealing is unethical and kidnapping is an abomination; both activities would anger the whites.

He reconsiders when he sees former Pony Express rider Joylynn Anderson and her stallion as he finds he covets both. He persuades her to come to his village. She agrees to do so as she has nothing amongst the whites. Having been raped by Mole an outlaw; most people blame her for his assault and her pregnancy that she has been hiding. At the Pawnee village, the brave Joylynn participates as an equal performing all tasks expected of a female. As High Hawk and Joylynn fall in love, his mother objects because she wants one of her kind as her daughter by marriage. When Mole leads an assault killing High Hawk's father, he and Joylynn lead the tribe to safer grounds while pursuing righteousness against a vile killer.

The theme is identical with the gazillion Savage romances that Cassie Edwards has written and the lead trio are interchangeable with the previous stories yet in spite of knowing exactly what will occur, as always, fans of the author will enjoy her latest historical. High Hawk is a noble ethical warrior while the intrepid Joylynn sees the goodness in this man; on the other hand Mole is a vile killer. In other words this trio steps straight out of Edwards casting. Still readers will enjoy this fine tale of the good, the bad, and the beauty.

As you read you will be able to see visions of what is taking place on the pages. Wonderful book.

As usual Ms. Edwards has done a fantastic job with this book. I'm a big fan
